The Position: National Science Educator

The National Science Educator acts as an ambassador for the Host Defense Mushrooms® line by conveying an extremely professional demeanor and demonstrating extensive product and company knowledge.  This position is responsible for supporting growth in sales via focused, enthusiastic educational events for brokers, store staff, consumers and medical professionals on a national level.  The ideal candidate will have prior experience in training and/or sales, be self- motivated, feel comfortable researching and citing studies on natural products and health, and maintain a high degree of accountability and professionalism.  This position is full time and has been determined to be exempt from overtime payment. The National Science Educator reports directly to the Head of Education.

•    Attain and maintain a complex understanding of the Host Defense Product line, the production methods associated with sustainable cultivation and manufacturing procedures of Fungi Perfecti, LLC and applications for health.
•    Disseminates scientifically accurate information on mushrooms, mycelium, herbs and health benefits.
•    Conducts a range of educational offerings for medical professionals, retail staff, end consumers and in-house staff.
•    Conducts in-person lectures and seminars for retail staff and consumers separately or as a unified audience.
•    Conducts web-based learning experiences, such as webinars for retailers and brokers as scheduled or assigned.
•   As needed, offers phone consultation and live or recorded radio events.
•   Responds to questions in person, by phone and via email regarding Host Defense
Mushrooms cultivation and manufacturing practices as well as product rationale and use.
•    Interacts with regional brokers as an ambassador of Host Defense, supporting their understanding of the company and products.
•    Supports regional brokers by fielding questions and concerns retailers and customers may have about the company and products.
•    Supports regional brokers by providing phone, video conferencing and in-person training opportunities for brokerage staff and retail staff when appropriately scheduled.
•   Analyzes and prioritizes need for educational opportunities across the regions in the US.
•    Develops specialty trainings for events including sales meetings, trade shows, staff meetings, etc.
•    Reviews sales and marketing materials as requested to verify scientific accuracy of information and consistency of messaging across departments.
•   Recommends educational and training improvements as well as new subject matter.
•    Participates in, edits and reviews training materials in a timely manner to create new materials.
•   Coordinates with Head of Education on special projects.
•   Attends bi-monthly education team meetings via video conferencing.
•   Travels 50-65% of the time.
•   Travels to Home Office at least twice a year for semi-annual meetings.

•   This is a full-time position that includes significant travel from one to three weeks a month.
This position can also have varied hours including early mornings, nights and weekends due to travel times, breakfast/dinner lectures, conferences and industry shows.

•   Bachelor’s Degree (or above) in a health-related field
•   Solid knowledge and understanding of the natural products industry
•   Intermediate skills with word, excel and PowerPoint programs
•   Ability to make effective presentations
•   Strong written and oral communication skills
•   Self-motivated with the ability to achieve goals
•   Ability to be flexible and problem solve in a constantly changing environment
•   History of work travel preferred but not required
•   Knowledge of mycology can be helpful but not required
